Using their retinue of knights and highwaymen, monks and peasants, the players strive to expand their sphere of influence and conquer ever more territories in order to earn as many points as possible in the game. CARCASSONNE is an intuitive tile-laying strategy game that offers new tactics and exciting challenges with every move. CARCASSONNE simply never gets old, and no two games are the same, because the players themselves create the map on which all the action takes place, and that map never repeats....CARCASSONNE (original:
CARCASSONNE) is the name of a fortified town in southern France that, over the years, has become a symbol of the struggle of medieval heretics against the policies of the Catholic Church. The unique fortification, still standing today, stretches majestically on the top of the hill. The walls of Carcassonne are an exceptional example of military architecture. They are the longest walls in Europe (nearly 3 km), a fairy-tale mixture of towers, watchtowers, crenellated parapets, battlements and drawbridges, whose construction began in the 7th century. It took 13 centuries of alterations, additions and embellishments by Romans, Gauls, Visigoths, Arabs, Franks and French nobles before this double fortified wall, the largest in Europe, was completed. The lighting at night gives it a very dramatic appearance, although torches are no longer used.
