Description

  • The cycad looks like a palm, but actually has nothing in common with palm trees. 
  • The cycad is grown in wide and deep containers so that it feels well. Its stem is short and thick, and its leaves resemble those of a palm, but with more fringes. It prefers warm subtropical regions.
  • Location and light
  • The cycad does not like direct light, but semi-shaded places. It is important that the plant is protected from draughts and rain. It can also be planted outdoors in a garden, but it is necessary to choose a shaded spot that is not exposed to strong wind and is not affected by direct sunlight.
  • Watering
  • Watering should be moderate during the active period and sparser the rest of the time.
  • Soil
  • Suitable soil should be a mixture of garden earth and sand, so as to ensure the necessary drainage of the soil. The cycad does not like moisture retention.
  • Fertilising
  • It is fertilised with mineral mixtures for green plants at the specified doses, or even less than those prescribed. Feed every 4 weeks during the warm months. In winter it is not necessary.
  • Temperature
  • The suitable temperature for the cycad in summer is about 25-28 degrees. In winter the temperature should not fall below 12-15. Ventilate the room, even in winter, because the cycad likes fresh air.
  • Propagation
  • The cycad is most difficult to propagate from seeds, because a special and constant soil temperature is required, which makes it necessary to heat it.
