Kånken was designed to provide proper back support and to prevent back pain, especially among Swedish children. Created in 1978, the backpack quickly became an enduring part of childhood in Sweden and spread through preschools and outdoor schools across the country. Today, after more than 35 years, Kånken remains one of Fjällräven's most beloved backpacks, used by people around the world for school, work, travel and hiking.

Kånken is made of durable, double-waxed G-1000 HeavyDuty with an inner back pocket of G-1000 Lite. Like its predecessor, it is a sturdy and practical everyday backpack, suitable for school and work as well as day trips or travel. The main compartment has a wide opening, which makes it easy to pack and unpack items. The back pocket has a padded seat of G-1000 HeavyDuty, so comfort during a break is never far away. Two open side pockets and one zipped pocket at the front. The details and handles are made of leather, and the shoulder straps are made of textile. The waterproofing can easily be enhanced with Greenland Wax, which also increases durability.
