Approvals: BMW Long Life-04 What should we know about them? ACEA C3 – engine oils specifically developed for gasoline and diesel engines. They guarantee an extended life for the particulate filter and the catalytic converter. Lubricants from this class help reduce fuel consumption. These are "low SAPS" lubricants, meaning the content of sulfur, sulfated ash, and phosphorus is reduced. It is most frequently combined with MB 229.31/229.51 approvals. VW50200/VW50500/VW50501, BMW Longlife 04. They require low friction and an HTHS viscosity > 3,5mPas. API SM – for all automotive engines currently in production. The approval was introduced in 2004. Oils from this class have increased oxidation resistance, improved wear and corrosion protection, and also feature enhanced low-temperature properties. API CF – for diesel cars from 1990 onwards, with turbochargers. BMW Long Life-04 – the approval is for lubricants with an extended service and replacement interval, required for BMW gasoline or diesel vehicles with an integrated particulate filter and turbocharger manufactured after 2004.
