Description
Zeolite is a natural silicate mineral with micropores that allow certain substances to be retained while others pass through them. This unique mineral is widely used in agriculture as a soil and soil substrate improver. It is used when planting and germinating seedlings and various plants, including ornamental coniferous plants, fruit trees and shrubs, vegetables, cereals, garden flowers, herbs and others. It is also suitable for lawns, as well as for the production of professional substrates for greenhouse and hydroponic cultivation.
Among the main advantages of zeolite are its excellent physical properties - it does not compact, has high hygroscopicity and adsorption due to a developed system of channels and pores, as well as a large ion exchange capacity (up to 160 mg eq/100 g). Zeolite absorbs ammonium ions and nutrients, being an environmentally friendly and natural material suitable for adding to the soil. Excellent results are achieved when mixed with humus, peat, manure and other similar materials.
Norms of use:
-
To improve soil aeration and increase yields in the garden, it is recommended to add 30-70 kg of zeolite per 100 m², followed by digging to a depth of 15-20 cm.
-
When building lawns, up to 150 kg of zeolite per 100 m² are used.
-
For already established lawns, 15-30 kg of zeolite is applied per 100 m².
-
For indoor flowers: remove the top layer of soil, add 50-100 g of zeolite for each liter of pot volume, mix well and cover with peat substrate.
-
When preparing peat and soil substrates, 100-200 g of zeolite is added for each liter of volume until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.
-
As drainage: place 150-250 g of zeolite at the bottom of the container for each liter of volume.
-
When planting trees: cover the bottom of the hole with 1-2 cm of zeolite, mix with the soil, water thoroughly, place the tree and cover with soil.
When used as a filler in aquarium filters, zeolite should be replaced every two months. Pure zeolite is an indispensable medium for sowing and germinating cactus seeds.
The effect of zeolite as a soil improver can last up to 10 years, depending on soil characteristics and agrotechnical conditions.
