Description
The handle of the folding knife Opinel Animalia is made of oak wood, which makes it comfortable and durable. On it are laser-engraved natural motifs with a dog, which traditionally symbolises endurance, nobility and dignity.
Opinel pays tribute to the traditional wood engraving craft of the Alpine region with the Animalia knife collection, depicting characteristic animals and natural motifs on their handles.
Stainless steel with a hardness of 55-57 HRC, used in the blades, is a grade optimised to guarantee both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance. The advantage of stainless steel is that it does not require special maintenance under normal conditions of use. However, it may reach its limits if it is placed in prolonged contact with aggressive environments (acid, salt water, cleaning agents, etc.).
Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to all folding knives from No. 6 upwards. Cut from stainless steel, Virobloc has two sections - one fixed and one sliding. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety in use), it is now possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safety in transport).
