Pineapple melon (Cucumis melo Ananas) is an annual, sun-loving plant. The variety is medium-early and has a high content of folic acid, potassium, magnesium, glucose and vitamins. It is consumed fresh, frozen, in fruit salads or in desserts. Sowing for seedlings is from January to March and transplanting is in March and April. The optimal temperature for growth and development is 28 - 30°C. Melons need frequent watering, but are most demanding of soil moisture during the flowering and fruit growth periods. Melons require warm and loose soils. The fruits are picked early in the morning after the dew has lifted, but before the hot hours of the day begin.
