Did you know there is a connection between dinosaurs, hippopotamuses and graceful horses? If you don't believe it, here is the evidence: To begin with, we'll tell you where horses come from – from a very small kind of dinosaur called Hyracotherium. They were about 14 centimetres tall and weighed on average about 5 kilograms. Strangely, not a single ancient horse skeleton has been discovered in Australia. They were brought there only in the 19th century! And now let's reveal the connection between horses and the clumsy hippos – it turns out that the name "hippopotamus" means not something else, but "horse of the river". Well, that is quite a stretch, but in the water hippos are as fast as horses on land.
The exceptional bond between horses and people cannot be denied, and it has its basis, besides mental, also in purely physical grounds. Both people and horses have five similar developed senses, and both people and our four-legged friends see the world equally coloured, even in the same shades. Unlike us, however, their sense of smell is so sharp that they sense when their rider is anxious and afraid.
