The Spice Route

The book was published in English under the title Spice Road

"The Spice Road" leads us across boundless sands, where, hidden from the rest of the world, lies the city of Kalia. There grows a secret magical spice. Tea made from it temporarily unlocks the magical gifts of those who drink it. Seventeen-year-old Imani, with the help of the magical spice, is unmatched in combat with kami. She has earned the reputation of the next great warrior in the fight against djinn, evil spirits and other monsters that roam the sands. But her fame is clouded by the disappearance of her beloved brother. Everyone believes he has perished beyond the Forbidden Wasteland.

One day Imani discovers traces suggesting that her brother may be alive. Determined to find and protect him, she joins the group sent to capture him. Their leader is Taha, a powerful beast-mage who can merge his mind with his falcon. He both attracts and infuriates the girl. Imani soon realises that beyond the Forbidden Wasteland there are many secrets, and not everything she has accepted as truth is real. Torn between her duty to her people and her love for her brother, she must decide whom to be loyal to... before it is too late.
