Description
The Thuja Smaragd are evergreen plants that need little care. Whether you are looking for an elegant accent for your garden or a sturdy living hedge, the adaptable Thuja Smaragd This is the answer. These trees grow quickly and are winter-hardy.
To build a perfect hedge from Western thuja 'Smaragd', you need to take certain care of the plants. Watering is most important; young plants must not be allowed to dry out. In addition, it is good to fertilise thujas at least twice a year, in spring and autumn. We also recommend pruning the tops of the plants twice a year.
Thuja 'Emerald' is of Danish origin. It grows in a narrow pyramidal shape, reaching a maximum height of 3-5 metres and a width of up to 1 metre. Its size makes it suitable for planting as a standalone plant, in group plantings, or for creating hedges in smaller gardens and narrow spaces. These trees can grow 30-40 centimetres per year until they become established, and then grow 15-20 centimetres per year until they reach their maximum size. The dense green crown of the Emerald stays green year-round.
If you want to create a natural hedge or windbreak, plant the trees 50 cm apart. This way you will provide enough room for the individual thujas to grow, and they will become narrow and pyramidal, so you won't have to worry about pruning or trimming unless you want to.
During the first few months after you plant your Thuja Smaragd, you will need to water it every day or every other day. After that, you can switch to watering less often. Too little water causes the leaves to change colour – turning brown or yellow. It is good to keep the soil constantly moist.
